Abstract: The present research attempts to measure background ionizing
radiation in an high altitude town of Imesi-Ile, Osun State, Southwestern, Nigeria.
The measurements were carried out in 20 locations within the town using portable
Digilert 50 Nuclear Radiation monitor. The absorbed dose rates obtained ranges
from 26.6-48.6 nGy h-1 with a mean value 37.19 nGy h-1.
The estimated annual effective dose is 0.46 mSv. This value is less than annual
dose unit of 1 mSv recommended by UNSCEA for normal environment.
