President Olusegun Obasanjo, has since the inauguration of his administration in May, 1999 been trying hard to resuscitate the nation’s battered image abroad. The president’s shuttle diplomacy across the globe is yet to achieve a convincing impact on the civilized international community in terms of image-building and respect for the nation and Nigerians abroad. Nigerians are treated with indignity, contempt, impunity and suspect beyond the nation’s shores. The problematic challenge of the nation’s foreign policy is how to overcome its image crisis and deficiency in integrity and discipline and thereby securing the desired respect for its citizens internationally.
