Abstract

The prevalence of obesity is escalating on a global scale. Epidemiological research has established a correlation between obesity and several forms of cancer. However, the specific mechanisms by which obesity triggers or facilitates the development of cancer vary depending on the site of the cancer. Several factors contribute to the development of certain conditions, such as insulin resistance and subsequent chronic hyperinsulinemia, elevated levels of steroid hormones and localized inflammation. Acquiring a complete knowledge of the correlation between adiposity and cancer has the potential to provide novel perspectives on the mechanisms underlying cancer development.
