Abstract

In applications such as population dynamics, the environment is often assumed constant despite the fact that fluctuating environments may fundamentally affect the dynamics. In particular, environmental periodicity can enhance or diminish population sizes. In this study discrete non-autonomous Ricker population model is considered. Specifically the dynamics of the Ricker Model are investigated when subjected to environmental variability. This is achieved by periodically modulating the carrying capacity which is considered as a proxy variable for the state of the environment. We analyze a population whose growth is subject to an alternating environment. The parameter space is explored both periodic and chaotic behaviour including abrupt change of chaotic attractors are observed.
