Abstract

In this study, we analyzed the correlation between two mathematics courses namely, Math 1 and 2 which are compulsory for 1st year students at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). The purpose of this study is to show that the two subjects must be taken consecutively and Math 1 is a pre-requisite in order to take Math 2. For the analysis, we used simple linear regressions method to determine the correlation between these two subjects. The independent variable used in this study is Math 1 and the dependent variable is Math 2. Three research questions asked were the performance of different group in Math 1 and 2, the existence of significant linearity relationship between the two subjects and the correlation between the two subjects. The result for this study shows that there is a different in performance by different group taking Math 1 and 2. The results also shows that there is a strong correlation between the two subjects and by that, we can conclude that students really do need to take Math 1 prior to taking Math 2.
