Non-linear control of power converters is an active area of research in the fields of power electronics. The variable structure nature of DC-DC converters lends itself to Sliding Mode Control (SMC). The state space averaged model of a DC-DC buck boost converter has been derived and sliding mode control techniques are applied to the system to obtain the desired output. The presence of a RHP zero in the control-to-output transfer function resulted in undershoot in the output response. To tide over the disadvantages of the conventional control techniques, the non-linear Sliding Mode Control (SMC) scheme has been adopted. The simulations are carried out using SIMULINK software.
